Matthew Winters Hike/ Red rocks

This was a beautiful day for a hike. I was surprised how many flowers were out already. We started at the parking lot with restrooms. The first trail to take was the Village walk .3 miles that hooks up to the Red Rocks Trail .8 mi.

Starting out as a mainly flat area, lots of green grass. There will be a junction with a choice of two ways to go. Steeper and longer is the Morrison Slide (1.2 mi) or continue along the red Rocks Trail.

As we start to climb , the views get better and further away.

We finally get to the top of the Morrison Slide Trail.

The red rocks start to come into view.

Here is the view where we ate our lunch before heading back the same Morrison  Slide Trail. You can keep going on the red rocks trail to another parking lot. There were many people heading from that way.

Here is where the two trails come back together at the bottom of the climb.

Back to the parking lot to cross over the bridge. Total of  4.5 miles. This is a great early season hike before it gets too hot. elevation 6,200-6,771 ft gain 1,296 ft.
