Lower Calf Creek Falls- Escalante Utah

This hike was part of our trip to Utah with a group of 20 people. We drove into the town of Escalante and headed to the trailhead for Calf Creek Recreation area.

Lots of red dirt at the start of the hike.

The landscape rocks were beautiful.

As we continued on the hike the rocks changed. We passed mineral streaked cliffs of Navajo sandstone.

Some of the trail walked along a ridge.

We hiked along a creek on the right side. Some of the trees seen were pinyon pine trees and Utah Juniper trees.

The falls finally come into view. The lower creek falls are 130 feet high. Some people in our group waded into the pool below.

The hike to Calf Creek Falls, Lower is 5.84 miles roundtrip. This was a moderate hike with gorgeous views of rock and we saw some petroglyphs at one of the markers. There are some signs along the way that point out interesting sites. The falls was a great destination to the hike.

Zig Zag Canyon hike and rappel

Here we are heading out on the trail for our Rappel/hiking trip in Moab, Utah. We used the same outfitter called Desert highlights as two years ago when we did the Morning Glory Arch rappel. We are all outfitted with packs, helmets, harnesses and snacks.

Some of the crevasses were quite small.
Part of the fun was getting to the rappel area. We had to climb up through crevices and through rocks to get to the peaks.
We had 16 people in our group with 3 guides. They were awesome and always at every spot we needed help or instructions for the climbs.

Here we are getting instructions for our first short rappel. Putting on our helmets and harnesses.

The scenery was breathtaking as we walked. The shapes and colors of the rock formations were amazing!

Another area we had to creep up higher. The guides were Melissa,

This was our first short rappel.

The next rappel.

More squeezing through slots.

We had to jump down into a slot the length of our body.

We are ready to go with all our gear.

This is the last rappel. We each took our turn one at a time. First we rappelled to a cliff for a short distance. They we hooked on again for the long haul. 230 feet. See the person at the top getting ready to head down.

The tall cliffs surrounded us.

This Rappel was awesome. The hike was beautiful and the rappel was thrilling. We were freehanging for part of the last cliff.
